Our test economy was 29.5 mpg and that kept us away from the pumps.Ī turbocharged 1.7-liter four with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is also available, delivery 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. When pressed, the engine is buzzy, but it’s surprisingly quiet when cruising. The 2.0-liter four under the hood delivers 147 horsepower, which is adequate for the 2,844-pound Soul. Also, “folded” cargo capacity is two levels, but you can work with it. The deep well of the standard 24.2 cubic feet is useful, but I had to fold the seat backs for my golf clubs. The rear seat backs fold to create an impressive 62.1 cubic feet of storage capacity. Soul is a fun little subcompact car that can serve as a small SUV in a pinch. Forget the quirky hamster commercials, Soul’s styling has evolved minimally, although, like Minis, everyone seems different.Įxterior styling for the 2020 third generation Soul consists of a large grille that almost obliterates the traditional Kia “shark nose.” I felt the best of them from a design standpoint was, and is, the Kia Soul. There was a blush of “box cars” a few years back - Scion xB, Nissan Cube, Mini, Kia Soul. The 2020 edition continues that reputation. STICKER: $22,615 (includes $995 delivery, $130 options (carpeted floor mats))īOTTOM LINE: From its inception, the Kia Soul has been among the best of the “box” cars. (rear seats up/down)ĮCONOMY: 27 mpg city/33 mpg highway/29.5 mpg testĬOMPETITIVE CLASS: Fiat 500L, Nissan Kicks, Toyota C-HR The only thing we wish our car had was dedicated air vents for the back seat, but honestly, the air system works really well, so they aren’t a necessity.HORSEPOWER/TORQUE: 147 hp 6,200 rpm/132 lb.-dft. We’ve been very happy over the years with Kia’s reliability - both in the vehicle and in their maintenance, the level of comfort in the vehicle, the fuel mileage, the warranty, and the fact that the price point is beyond fair for what you get. That’s really the beauty of this vehicle - it has something for everyone! Before we bought our 2012 Kia Soul, we were told that people who love the Soul, stay with the Soul, and they weren’t wrong. Our kids love that there’s like 6 inches more leg room than our 2012 and that they have a middle console for their drinks (or as a barrier between them, let’s be honest!).

Personally, I really enjoy the lane guiding system, and the wireless charging dock. We were not looking to buy the 2020 GT Turbo Kia Soul, but we are happy we did! There are features my wife loves more than I do, like the sunroof, the fact that the kids have a USB port in the back, and the deeper cargo space. However, I probably would have ended up buying it anyway due to all of the pluses of owning a Kia. I wish I had done a little more research/homework and/or paid more attention to the features before purchasing the 2020 Soul. I DO like that the MPH can be shown digitally instead of/in addition to analog. In the '15, there was a center console in the back seat that could be opened to access 2 additional cup holders for back seat passengers. In the '20, you have to hold the button down until the window is all the way up.

In the '15, my windows would go all the way up automatically when you clicked on the button. So much so that people have actually refused to talk to me. I cannot put sunglasses in the overhead sunglass holder (in the '15 OR the '20) because when I am on the phone (hands-free) it causes extremely loud noises (like a New Year's Eve noisemaker) on the other persons' side. In the '20 I have to have the phone plugged into the USB (with a brand name cord) in order to utilize all of the touch screen functions. In the '15, my phone was connected by Bluetooth. I do not need/want a back-up camera, or a touch screen, but both are now standard = car is priced higher. There is no cargo cover/removable shelf in the '20 and the cargo area is sunken, so it is more difficult to access items.

The glove box in the '20 is about half the size of the glove box in the '15. I used to be able to fit a round tissue container and/or a larger bottled water in the door pocket, but now I cannot, so I have nowhere to put my tissue except on the back seat. The '15 has bigger drink "holders" in the doors. There are many features that were in the '15 that I WISH were still available in the '20. I have a 2015 Kia Soul and a 2020 Kia Soul.
